Chiara Milan is a visiting fellow at the Center for Southeast European Studies in Graz and a research fellow at the Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences of the Scuola Normale Superiore in Florence. She received her PhD in Political and Social Sciences from the European University Institute. Previously, Chiara conducted extensive research on the dynamics of mobilization and collective action in the Yugoslav successor states, with a specific focus on Bosnia Herzegovina. Currently she investigates grassroots initiatives in solidarity with refugees in Austria and in the countries of former Yugoslavia in the context of the 2015-16 so-called refugee crisis. Her research interests focus on contentious politics in divided societies, urban movements, refugees and forced migration.
